<image:title>Blog - The Holidays Can Be Complicated, And That’s Okay - Why Food Feels So Much Bigger This Time of Year</image:title>
<image:caption>There’s something about the holidays that intensifies everything. Family dynamics. Nostalgia. Stress. The cultural obsession with “getting back on track in January.” All of that gets piled onto one plate, and suddenly a simple meal feels emotionally louder than expected. Sometimes the quiet thoughts creep in, like: What will people notice about my body this year? Will someone say something that makes me want to shrink? Why am I suddenly thinking about old food rules I haven’t thought about in ages? These moments aren’t failures. They’re signals. They’re reminders of the pressure we’ve absorbed over time, and the tenderness beneath it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Beyond the Mirror: Finding the Self Beneath Survival</image:title>
<image:caption>1. Identity Beyond Appearance For so long, I confused visibility with validation. I thought being seen meant being worthy, but all anyone could see was the outer layer I curated. The deeper work began when I started asking, What do I value when no one’s watching? What dreams still hum beneath the noise? It’s strange how freeing it feels to remember that identity isn’t a mirror, it’s a mosaic. If you find yourself measuring worth by what’s reflected back, pause. Ask instead: What do I care about when appearance doesn’t matter? What qualities do I want to grow, not just show? That’s where the real “you” begins. 2. Food Is Not a Moral Issue I used to narrate my meals with guilt: “I’ve been good today,” or “I shouldn’t have eaten that.” But morality doesn’t belong on your plate. Food isn’t a test you pass or fail; it’s connection, comfort, culture, and care. When I began to see food as nourishment instead of proof, I noticed how much peace entered the room. A gentle practice: try describing your meals without value labels. Instead of “I was bad for eating dessert,” try “I had something sweet that made me feel satisfied.” Notice how language shifts your relationship to nourishment.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - For the Ones Who Love Them</image:title>
<image:caption>I never want to minimize what it’s like to live inside the experience of trauma, or to navigate the mental minefields of a disordered brain. But I also don’t want to overlook the experience of those nearby—the ones who quietly hold, wait, adjust, and ache. The ones who love deeply and often invisibly. Because when one person suffers, the system suffers. When one begins to heal, the system shifts, too. It’s all relationship. Always has been. There are so many kinds of suffering that ripple through relationships. Sometimes it’s a partner who becomes quieter, lost in the fog of depression. Sometimes it’s a friend walking through cancer treatments, a sibling navigating addiction, a child tangled in an eating disorder. Each of these stories is different, yet what they have in common is this: no one walks through them alone. Even when it looks like they do.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - It’s Not About Eating All the Candy - What Intuitive Eating Really Means</image:title>
<image:caption>Intuitive Eating isn’t about what you eat, it’s about how you relate to food and your body. Giving yourself permission to enjoy candy (or any food) can be a meaningful step, especially if restriction and guilt have ruled your food choices for years. But permission is not the end goal, it’s the first step toward rebuilding trust with your body. When scarcity and shame are removed, curiosity can take their place. People often notice that: Sometimes candy tastes great and hits the spot. Sometimes a few pieces feel satisfying. Sometimes they don’t want it at all, and that choice feels neutral, not virtuous. That neutrality, the ability to make choices without guilt or rebellion, is the essence of Intuitive Eating. Why Food “Freedom” Can Feel Unsettling For many, food has been tied to control and safety for a long time. When someone begins loosening old rules around eating, parts of them may feel anxious or unsafe. From a trauma-informed perspective, those reactions make sense. They’re protective. The body and mind remembering times when control around food felt like survival. Approaches like EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) often support clients in exploring these deeper layers. It’s not just about changing food behaviors, it’s about healing the inner relationship with safety, trust, and care.</image:caption>

But because holding onto it — at least right now — costs me more than it gives back. The weight of it may be invisible to everyone else, but I feel it in my shoulders, in my calendar, in the way I sigh before I start another task.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - When Caring for Yourself Feels Uncomfortable - Choosing What To Cut</image:title>
<image:caption>The cutting isn’t always easy. In fact, it rarely is. But over time, I’ve learned a few ways to make it gentler. Well-being doesn’t always look like a scented candle and a bath. Sometimes it looks like an open space on your calendar, a deep exhale, and the freedom to show up fully for the things that remain. If you find yourself stretched thin, remember this: caring for yourself may not always feel comfortable in the moment. It might feel uncertain, awkward, or even like you’re letting someone down. But in time, you’ll notice the subtle rewards — more energy, more presence, and the ability to live your life instead of just managing it. This is what peace can feel like.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Healing Without Harm - What is Weight Stigma?</image:title>
<image:caption>Weight stigma is the discrimination, judgment, or negative assumptions directed toward people based on body size. Sometimes it shows up in overt ways: cruel comments, social exclusion, or denial of opportunities. Other times, it’s more subtle but equally harmful: a doctor assuming all health concerns come down to weight, or a therapist overlooking how shame about body size can shape someone’s mental health. At its core, weight stigma is rooted in anti-fat bias: the belief that smaller bodies are inherently better, healthier, or more worthy than larger ones. This isn’t just a personal belief system; it’s woven into healthcare, media, workplaces, and even our closest relationships.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Healing Without Harm - Healing Without Harm The call to “heal without harm” is simple but radical. It asks us to pause and consider: How do our words, assumptions, or practices impact others? For healthcare providers, it might mean slowing down to listen rather than defaulting to weight-focused advice. For therapists, it could be exploring how body image and stigma affect a client’s lived experience, without centering weight as a “problem to solve.” For those of us navigating the healthcare system, it might look like giving ourselves permission to advocate. To ask for providers who respect us, to decline being weighed when it’s not medically necessary, or to bring a support person to appointments if that feels safer. Healing without harm also means recognizing that bodies are diverse. Health does not have a single “look.” And every person deserves care that honors their humanity first.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - This Body Right Here - I don’t say this to disparage anyone’s body-image struggles—goodness knows I’ve had my own. I say it because moments like these remind me that a body is not a billboard. It’s a home. It’s a lifeline. It’s the thing that lets us wake up, love, work, dance, cry, and show up again tomorrow. When I start to spiral about my own body, I find myself returning to words from author, speaker, and inspiration, Emily Nagoski. She writes: “I genuinely believe that every body is beautiful because beauty is innate in every body, just as it’s innate in every flower, every bird, every rock, and every river… I’m not saying ‘beautiful’ is something you should be; I’m saying ‘beautiful’ is something you can’t help being, because all bodies are already beautiful. Period. Human beauty isn’t the same thing as the culturally constructed, aspirational aesthetic ideal. Human beauty is having any human body.”</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Finding Ease in the Season of Change - I used to think I needed to control every part of my healing. I believed that if I worked hard enough, stuck to the right plan, or followed all the “rules,” I would finally arrive at a place of peace. But what I’ve learned is that peace doesn’t come from rigid control. It comes from softening. It comes from noticing what my body is asking for in this moment, and then allowing myself to respond with care. Sometimes that means resting instead of pushing through. Other times, it looks like giving myself permission to enjoy the warmth of fresh bread, a cup of pumpkin spice coffee, or a bowl of soup without guilt. Food isn’t just fuel; it’s comfort, connection, and tradition. Autumn reminds me that it’s okay to lean into comfort, to let myself be nourished by the things that bring me joy.</image:title>
<image:caption>I also find that the small transitions in my day. Morning to work, day to night, become opportunities to practice presence. Instead of rushing through them, I try to notice: How does my body feel right now? What would make this next part of my day feel a little more gentle? Sometimes it’s as simple as lighting a candle before bed, or pausing for a deep breath before starting a meeting. These little rituals ground me in the truth that I can trust myself to care for my body in small, steady ways. If you’ve found yourself feeling unfinished lately, like you didn’t check all the boxes you hoped to, please know that doesn’t mean you’re failing. Healing isn’t about completion. It’s about compassion for the process. Just as no season is permanent, no feeling or setback is permanent either. You are allowed to ebb and flow. As the days shorten and the air cools, I’m choosing to meet myself with kindness. I’m choosing to let go of the old rules and comparisons that keep me stuck. I’m choosing to believe that my worth doesn’t fall with the leaves. And if you’re reading this, maybe you can choose the same.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Mind the Gap: How to manage daily life while experiencing grief & loss - As strange as it seems when you’re grieving, life for the living continues. I have a family, a job, adult responsibilities, and another dog that needs caring for. I went from thinking almost constantly about my sweet dog’s passing to experiencing jarring pains in my chest when reminded of her, which was often. It’s funny because I can now talk about her and feel at peace, or even happy, reminiscing about things like her mannerisms or how affectionate she was. It’s the gaps that get me. When I open a can of tuna, which was her favorite food, she isn’t beside me, begging for some. When I walk into my house and she doesn’t greet me at the door, I’m physically aware of her absence. Setting out only one dog bowl at dinner feels wrong, especially when there are more ready to be used. It’s where she is missing that catches me off guard.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - The Time I Couldn’t Scroll Past — and Why It Still Matters - This time, though, I couldn’t scroll past. The post was promoting a book called Intuitive Fasting, with a foreword by Gwyneth Paltrow. Two words — “intuitive” and “fasting” — sitting side by side like they belonged together, when in truth they pull in opposite directions. As a therapist who works with body image, trauma, and eating disorders, I’ve spent years helping people untangle from diet culture. Intuitive eating — the real kind — is about rejecting restriction, rebuilding trust with your body, and listening to its cues without judgment. Pairing “intuitive” with “fasting” isn’t a clever twist. It’s a contradiction. It’s like marketing “spontaneous scheduling” or “free will discipline.” The words cancel each other out, but not before sending a confusing message: trust your body… unless it tells you to eat, in which case, don’t.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Loving the You That Got You Here - Why We Want To Disown Our Past Selves</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s easy to feel shame when we think about certain parts of our past: The relationship we stayed in long after it stopped feeling safe or right. The professional mistake that still makes us cringe. The opportunities we didn’t take because fear got the best of us. The times we repeated old patterns we swore we’d outgrown. We can be quick to judge these past versions as wrong, weak, or less than. But here’s the paradox: the more we fight against our past selves, the more stuck we become.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/669e5d9ae2c62a2978bba9f2/f351368d-b752-4298-ae6d-02b4fb18e6f9/javardh-FL6rma2jePU-unsplash.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Blog - Loving the You That Got You Here - 2. Pause When Old Patterns Show Up Instead of spiraling into self-criticism, use these steps: Notice the pattern without labeling it “good” or “bad.” Name it: “Oh, this is that thing I used to do when I felt insecure.” Nurture yourself: “It makes sense this is here. I can choose differently now.” This creates space to act from your current self rather than defaulting to your past self’s strategies. 3. Anchor Into Your Future Self Daily Think about one small, consistent action your future self would take. It could be: Keeping your home in a way that feels nourishing. Honoring your basic needs: meals, rest, hygiene. Making time for play so productivity doesn’t become a dopamine trap. When you treat yourself the way you imagine your future self would, you start to become them.</image:title>

<image:caption>Complete a breathing exercise. There are many options, from box breathing to belly breathing. I personally use paced breathing, which is where you inhale deeply through your nose for 4 seconds, hold the air in your lungs for 7 seconds, and exhale forcefully through your mouth for 8 seconds. 2. Be where your feet are (aka be present). If you are standing in your kitchen, feel the ground beneath your feet and be aware of yourself in the kitchen. If you’re sitting in a chair in your office, feel how your feet connect to the floor, your back to the chair, etc. 3. Notice your surroundings. For example, you can name every item in the room you’re in that’s the color blue or identify 3 different textures near you. 4. Go outside. Being outside in fresh air, surrounded by greenery and nature, helps you connect to something beyond yourself.</image:caption>

Inner Revolution supports people navigating eating disorder recovery, body image healing, trauma, and the quiet, often invisible process of rebuilding after rupture. Through therapies like EMDR and IFS, the team can help you explore the deeper roots of your patterns and reconnect with the version of you who already knows how to care for yourself. Schedule a free 15-minute consultation and let’s find the therapist who’s right for you. You’ve already done the hardest part—leaving what wasn’t working. Now comes the beautiful, messy, meaningful part: coming home to yourself.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Women being sexualized and then shamed. Desire being punished. Power being overlooked—until someone lower on the ladder bore the blame. I see this story every week in my therapy office. In the tangled ways women relate to their bodies, their reputations, and their sense of worth. In the shame they carry—not because they did something wrong, but because someone else decided they should feel wrong. Women who learned to shrink—not just physically, but emotionally. Women were taught that being desirable and being respected couldn’t coexist. Women who were sexualized before they were ready, then blamed or mocked for it. Women whose stories were rewritten by others, and who began to doubt their own.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Making Myself Small: What ED Recovery Taught Me</image:title>
<image:caption>When I first began eating disorder recovery, I thought it would be about food. About adding things back in. About not skipping meals. About “getting healthy again.” But what it really became was a mirror. A mirror that showed me how much of my life I had been spending trying to be small—not just physically, but emotionally, spiritually, and relationally. And the truth is, it didn’t start with food. Orthorexia became the way I made sense of a life where I didn’t feel like I had permission to take up space.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Making Myself Small: What ED Recovery Taught Me - Learning Who I Was, Outside the Relationship</image:title>
<image:caption>Through some brief but impactful EMDR work, I started uncovering where these patterns began. I saw how societal values have trained women to move this way through the world. How I grew up feeling responsible for others’ comfort. How I learned to suppress my needs, to maintain harmony, and to never be “too much.” That work continues to be a test of my compassion. Not just for my younger self—but also for the parts of me that still want to slip into people-pleasing and perfectionism when things feel tender. Eventually, I grew the confidence to say aloud what had become clear: the relationship I was in had run its course. I realized I had turned that relationship into my identity. And the scariest, most liberating question EMDR left me with was this: “Who are YOU?”</image:caption>

<image:caption>We also believe in nurturing the healers. If you're a therapist working with trauma, eating disorders, or body image concerns, you know how complex and layered this work can be. That’s why we offer clinical supervision and consultation for therapists seeking: Guidance on integrating EMDR or IFS into client work Support around countertransference and vicarious trauma A weight-inclusive, HAES-aligned lens Space to feel seen, held, and grounded in your own clinical intuition We’re not just here for clients—we’re here for clinicians, too. Because when therapists feel supported, the ripple effect benefits every client they serve.</image:caption>
